About The Event

Come by the church on Tuesday night, August 30th, from 7:00-8:30pm for a Discussion Night on the book of the Old Testament Book of Ruth. We will meet downstairs in the fellowship hall, and our time together will be pretty simple and straightforward.

Here is some pre-work to help you get the most of our discussion time:

1.) Please read through Ruth ahead of time, ideally 2-3 times. Focus especially on chapter 1 (all) and chapter 4:13-21.

2.) Watch this video on Judges.

3.) Please consider the following questions as you read through Ruth:

Ruth 1:1 tells us that this story took place, “in the days of the judges.”

  • Who were the judges?
  • When were they in power?
  • What was this period of Israel’s history like?
  • Why might this be significant for the author of the book to include?

Who were the Moabites? Why did Naomi and her family originally travel and move to Moab? What significance might this have for this story?

Characters: Where do each of the main characters come from (what nation)? What is going on in each of their lives? And how do they respond?

  • Elimelech
  • Naomi
  • Ruth
  • Boaz

How does the author end this story in 4:13-21 and how should this shape the way we understand the overall meaning and purpose of the story?

Read Matthew 1:1-7 and see if you notice any familiar names :)

The goal of this discussion night is just to prepare us for the upcoming sermon series through Ruth, which will begin on Sunday, September 4th. We are looking forward to it! Please consider joining us and maybe even bring a friend along with you.
